Japan and Brazil: two countries on opposite sides of the globe. This summer, the TURN project supervised by artist Katsuhiko Hibino went to Brazil for the Olympics and Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro. During TURN in BRAZIL, artists based in Japan and Brazil visited local welfare facilities, and gave workshops and exhibitions of artworks resulting from the process of exchange with people at the facilities and local communities. Over 18 successful days of events in Rio de Janeiro, venues reported in excess of 40,000 visitors.
Following their productive time in Brazil, returning project members are holding a TURN in BRAZIL debriefing. As well as featuring footage of the exchange program rolled out in Brazil and results of the exhibitions, the session will include guest art and welfare practitioners who will join project members for a debriefing session.
*This exhibition will be held as part of “First Steps toward Art, Design and Disability” (organized by Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan).
